Fotografiska Oslo Makes Its Norwegian Debut at Oslo Negativ

This October, Fotografiska Oslo will make its first public appearance at the Oslo Negativ festival, offering audiences a preview of the Fotografiska universe ahead of its opening in Oslo's historic Deichman building in 2028.

Presented at the National Gallery in Oslo, the Fotografiska Oslo exhibition brings together works by some of the most influential photographers of our time, celebrating Fotografiska's commitment to photography and visual storytelling. The exhibition features artists who have previously exhibited at Fotografiska.

We celebrate Oslo Negativ’s 2026 theme: Passion, with loans from The Møller Collection presententing international stars, from four Norwegian artists - Anja Niemi, Christian Houge, Jonas Bendiksen, Margaret M. de Lange - and a video work from the Swedish artist Charlotte Gyllenhammar.

The exhibition explores photography as both an artistic language and a powerful force in society. It serves as an introduction to Fotografiska's curatorial vision: A place where iconic works, challenging contemporary photography, and emerging voices exist side by side.

"This exhibition marks the beginning of our journey in Norway. Fotografiska is built on a belief in photography's unique ability to inspire new perspectives, create meaningful dialogue, and connect people across cultures. Oslo Negativ is the perfect place to introduce our vision for Fotografiska Oslo and invite audiences into our world," says Jane Throndsen, Director of Fotografiska Oslo.

Among the featured artists is internationally acclaimed photographer Pixy Liao, whose work has been exhibited at Fotografiska in New York, Stockholm, and Tallinn. She will attend the festival as a guest of Fotografiska Oslo.

"Fotografiska really bridges the gap between fine art and the public. By presenting photography in such vibrant, welcoming spaces, they elevate artists' voices, foster real cross-cultural dialogue, and give artists the platform to reach a truly global audience.» Pixy Liao

This year’s exhibition offers a first glimpse of Fotografiska’s vision: A celebration of photography’s enduring ability to move, challenge, and connect us.
